A Betting Guide To Horse Racing

People who claim that horse racing is not fun probably haven't been to a horse track or have heard many different things about going to a race track. In the past, going to the track as it was referred to before, meant the person dealt heavily in gambling and was always in debt. Today, that is not the only case now. Nowadays, the track is a clean area that is brightly lit and even families can be spotted in the stands on weekends. Clearly the tracks image has changed but one thing that has not is the thriving business of gambling and horse racing in particular.

Horse racing for many people is a thrilling and intoxicating sport that cannot just be put down. Although horse racing has been called the sport of kings, one does not have to possess a lot of gold in order to be able to play and bet in the tracks.

In order for one to quickly get into the s[port, one has to know some of the basic concepts:

The Win is achieved by the first horse that finishes first. The horse that comes after is called the Place, and the third horse that comes in third is called the show horse. Among the three wins, the third placer is usually the safest bet for it can be predicted but it pays poorly. If one would like to play with short odds, the bet is usually the win while for long games should be given the show bets.

Aside from the wins, there are the types of bets that some players can get used to:

Daily Double: This bet is won if the player is able to pick the winners of 2 consecutive races. The usual daily doubles are the first two races and the last of the two races of the day.

Quinella: This bet is made when the player is not sure what horse would finish first of the two races. In betting a quinella, players bet on the two horses that might finish first and second place. The catch is that the horses that one has chosen must win in their order and not the reverse.

Exacta: The Exacta is similar to the Quinella, but the order of horses determines the win. For example: if a bet of 4-7 Exacta is made, this means that the number 4 horse must win and the number 7 must place. Exacta pays definitely more than the Quinella.

Trifecta: Many horse players love to bet the Trifecta when they see that the horses are in the race. The Trifecta is made when players bet on the first three horses to finish in order. For example, if one places a 4-6-8 trifecta, it means that the 4 horse places first, the 6 horse next and the 8 horse last. The bet is filled if all follow the winning order. A Trifecta bet usually pays out very handsomely.

Pick 3: The Pick bet is simply picking the 3rd winner on several races for the day. Some racetracks have different payouts on the Pick bets but normally if one is able to make multiple pick bets and wins, it could even payout more than the Trifecta.

Horse racing isn't as bad as one thinks and one simply has to realize the basics of the sport for one to appreciate it.
