What Our Betting Style Says About Us
Betting is more than putting the amount of money we are willing to risk in a gambling game. When we place our bet we are actually also sending a clear message across - we tell other players things about us. Our betting style gives away a part of us to our co-players.
We may wear the best outfit in casinos to project a good image to other players in the place, or we may try to act confident to play some psyche war at a casino table but we're all stripped naked, as it were, once we actually begin placing bets - once we show our betting style. Our bets reflect our real gambling mettle.
We can describe players in various ways - there are the rigid players, the confident players, and the aggressive ones. There are also loose ones, mere show-offs, and those who play just for fun - they usually provide profitability in the games. And all these traits are noted because of the players' betting attitude, or betting style.
Let's take poker for instance. How do we arrive at a conclusion that a player is a tight, loose, or aggressive one? How do we conclude that a player is an experienced one, a professional, or a novice? It is mainly by how effective the player's betting style is. The same principle goes with blackjack, keno, backgammon, craps, roulette, and even bingo. We're judged by our betting style.
It's not how good our play style is. Many good players falter when it comes to betting. Betting style is often supplemented with betting systems. These are used in blackjack, craps, and roulette, among others. Players who do not subscribe to a betting system are often deemed weak players. Those who do are deemed intermediate. But those who use both betting systems and their own judgments are deemed professional. It's all in the betting style.
In craps, for instance, we may know how to throw the dice with great precision and control. But if we don't supplement this with a strong and strategic betting style we waste all that complex calculated dice throwing down the drain. And the worse thing is that while we fail to benefit from our own good dice throws someone at the table with a strong and witty betting style may be betting on or against us and getting all the profits.
Our betting style or attitude is mostly what matters in gambling. It reflects our wit, skill, money management, and common sense.
